Sarkin Fulani sends message to his kinsmen over formation of vigilance group in southeast.
Senator Walid Jibrin advised against the formation of a vigilance group in the southeast – The Fulani leader instead called for discussion around herdsmen-farmers conflict – The elder statesman said the conference should be spearheaded by the federal government. Senator Walid Jibrin has called on Fulani associations in Nigeria to forget about the plan of forming a herdsmen vigilance group in the southeast and the whole southern part of Nigeria. Leadership reports that the Sarkin Fulani made this call in Kaduna where he instead called for a round table discussion in other to promote unity between farmers and herdsmen for peaceful coexistence.

The elder politician said: “The problems with conflict between herdsmen and farmers in Federal Republic of Nigeria is turning into a matter of concern and therefore the got to avoid any act that may

further escalate the situation should be avoided.

“It is in my read that forming the Herdsmen volunteer cluster within the South can solely irritate true rather thandetermination it.” The Fulani leader said the peace conference

should be headed by the federal government and it should be devoid of any personal, political and tribal interest.

”After the meeting of all the Fulani Associations, their recommendations should be presented to Fulani Emirs and Elders under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto who should thereafter
invite all the State Governors to the discuss problems raised in their recommendations.
“During the meeting of the Fulani Associations with all the Ardos in Federal Republic of Nigeria, issues to discuss should include problems associated with grazing for herdsmen putting into consideration new method

According to him, not all Fulanis are herdsmen, adding that that Fulani’s are peace loving people and will certainly do every thing possible to bring the situation to normalcy.

Meanwhile, the Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) has rejected the Miyetti Supreme Being bovineBreeders Association of African country (MACBAN)’s entail the creation of a vigilance cluster within the southeast.

MACBAN had made the demand during a security summit in Enugu state. The summit was convened by the Southeast Governors’ Forum.
However, in a statement by the OYC on Monday, June 24, the group said there is already a security threat in the region.
