In a release on Real Madrid’s official website, the club said: “He has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee. The player will be surgically operated in the next few days,” the statement read in part.

Real Madrid were chasing the game after goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang handed Arsenal a 2-0 lead, but Asensio reduced the deficit for Los Blancos, before Gareth Bale levelled scores to see win the match 3-2 from penalty shoot-out.
