Coronavirus Update: Governor Wike closes schools in Rivers state

Governor Nyesom Wike has given the order that all schools in Rivers state including the tertiary institutions to close amid rising coronavirus tensiion all over the world.

The governor gave the directives on Friday morning, March 20, through a press release by his media aide, Simeon Nwakaudu. Wike also placed restrictions on religious activities across the state, saying the choice was taken within the interest of the people as more cases of coronavirus were recorded within the country within the last forty-eight hours
As you’re aware, the planet Health Organisation (WHO) has described coronavirus as a worldwide pandemic. This development involves collective action by all well-meaning citizens.


“As a responsive government, albeit we’ve not had a confirmed case of coronavirus, we didn’t rest on our oars as we set-up a five-man inter-ministerial committee to hold out aggressive public enlightenment which will protect all those living and doing business within the state from the disease.
The governor also said that 158 surveillance and ad-hoc personnel are trained while one treatment centre and holding centres within the two teaching hospitals and every one General Hospitals within the state are fully functional.
