Nigeria Authorities, Lagos has announced on Friday that hospitals had seen cases of chloroquine poisoning after US President Donald Trump boastfully publicized the drug as a treatment against the new COVID – 19

President Donald Trump on Thursday said that the anti-malarial drug had been “approved” to treat COVID-19 by the America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA), just for the top of the agency to travel back and say it had not yet been given a definitive green light.
According to sources, the drug is currently used to treat coronavirus patients in China and in France, where some researchers said it showed an excellent promise, though scientists unanimously agreed that it should be given more trials to determine if it really works and is safe.

Lagos Health officials said that there had already been numerous claims online about chloroquine being a treatment.
Ore Awokoya, the senior special assistant to the Lagos state governor on health, told AFP that “In the previous couple of days that they had seen tons of messages going around on social medias about chloroquine being a cure for coronavirus and in some parts of Lagos, it had been not available.

After President Donald Trump’s statement on thursday it took another dimension, people were massively queuing ahead of the pharmacies to shop for chloroquine.
She also describes the push to require the drug as “worrying” as long as people were “self-medicating with none kind of guidance”.

she also announced to the public that “they’ve already registered two cases of poisoning and that the patients are hospitalized in Lagos and there’s possible chance they’ll see more cases within the coming days,”
